Seven essential skills
Children—and adults—need more than just academic knowledge to succeed and thrive in school and in life. They also need executive function skills. Executive function skills are life skills. They include using self-control, setting goals, and multitasking. But these skills don’t just happen—we learn them with support and practice.
Mind in the Making: Essential Life Skills for Children and Adults will prepare you to support children’s executive function. This course uses the lens of seven essential skills:
- Focus and self-control
- Perspective taking
- Communicating
- Making connections
- Critical thinking
- Taking on challenges
- Self-directed, engaged learning
This course is based on the work of Ellen Galinsky, author of the book Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs. The course translates the science of child development into tools and strategies. You can apply what you learn right away at work and at home! You’ll learn how to help children improve their executive function, and you’ll also learn how you use these skills in your own life. That’s important, because when adults see the value of executive function, we do a better job of helping children with it. It all starts with us.
- Learn from leading child development researchers and take virtual field trips to their labs
- Turn science into action in your work and in your life
- Deal with challenges and conflict with children in new ways
- Take a journey of discovery that participants have called “life-changing”
