TOT: Training of Trainers (TOT): Introduction to Children with Special Needs

The incidence of varying disabilities and special needs continue to increase and most child care providers will have the opportunity to care for children with special needs. This TOT will review some of the key traits for developmental concern, creating an inclusive environment, and some of the diagnoses most commonly seen. The TOT will also review the referral for screening process and the resources in early intervention. This course is owned by the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Upon successful completion of this TOT, you will be approved to train the following in-person course:
- Introduction to Children with Special Needs (8 hours)
The TOT is four hours in length, including two live video sessions on Zoom, a training segment delivery, and a reflection. Please review the Trainer Criteria carefully.
Applications will open Friday, April 24, 2026 and close Friday, May 8, 2026 at 5 p.m. CT. Late applications will not be reviewed.
Important information
- You are expected to be very familiar with the course materials before the live sessions. Please bring your delivery questions to the live sessions.
- Applications will be reviewed by May 13, 2026. Applicants will be notified, either way, between May 14 through 27.
- Live video sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. CT; and Wednesday, June 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. CT.
