RIOS™ 3: Extending the Reflective Supervisor's Growth and Capacity through the Reflective Interaction Observation Scale (RIOS) Framework

Who should sign up: people who work with young children and their families, people who receive reflective supervision or consultation for their work, people who are (or are preparing to be) reflective supervisors or consultants
Prerequisites: Completion of RIOS 1: Using the RIOS Framework for Reflective Supervision and RIOS 2: Advanced Reflective Supervision Using the RIOS Framework; 25 hours of individual or group reflective supervision or consultation (as supervisor or supervisee); knowledge of infant mental health theory and practice
This course focuses on the work of building and maintaining reflective alliances, using the RIOS framework and infant mental health principles as guides. We will discuss the importance of self-awareness in our interactions within reflective spaces. We will explore ways in which culture, race, privilege, racism, white supremacy, and social inequities show up in these spaces and how they influence helping relationships. The course is suitable for people who are new to providing reflective supervision, and it will also challenge seasoned providers with new ideas and perspectives.
This 24-week course is structured as six 4-week modules. Participants attend one live, two-hour Zoom meeting in every 4-week period. The instructor will schedule the meetings based on participants’ availability.
Participants will expand their knowledge of the following:
- The theoretical foundation of reflective supervision
- Best practices for reflective supervision
- Developing a reflective relationship
- Including race and culture in reflective supervision conversations
- Cultivating reflective capacity in yourself and others
- Addressing common supervisory challenges
This course fulfills the training requirement for reflective supervision for the Endorsed Reflective Supervisor® category of I/ECMH Endorsement®. It also meets ongoing training requirements for Infant and/or Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement® renewal.
Please note, if your state infant mental health association is a member of the Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health, an application for endorsement is made through your state’s association.
