Professional Development

We offer online and in-person professional development opportunities to support professionals in all disciplines that touch the lives of young children.

For professionals working in Minnesota

  • Learn from the experts. CEED was founded in 1974 as part of the research-driven College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota (UMN). Today, we are housed in the #1-ranked Institute of Child Development. According to the National Science Foundation’s Higher Education Research and Development survey, UMN ranks #9 in research among U.S. public universities.
  • Earn continuing education units or clock hours.* Clock hours range from 10 to 84 per course.
  • Low cost per clock hour. Our trainings and courses cost just $8.15 to $22 per clock hour. Compare that to around $30 per clock hour–the average rate for most early childhood professional development.
  • Learn on your own time, wherever you are. Access to our self-study modules and online course materials is provided 24/7.
  • Choose from a variety of instruction modalities, including:
    • Instructor-led asynchronous online courses
    • Self-paced online modules and trainings
    • In-person trainings
    • Cohort-based online programs and communities of practice
  • Rooted in reflective practice. As the birthplace of the RIOS™, we’re known for our focus on reflective practice and reflective supervision. Many of our offerings encourage participants to explore their prior learning, assumptions, and beliefs.

*We provide certificates for clock hours rather than continuing education units (CEUs) because our participants work in a variety of fields. Participants submit our certificates to the credentialing body relevant to their field, which determines the equivalent CEUs.
